    Hello!

Welcome to Oken's kitchen's first blog post!

You may or may not already know, we are a mother and daughter team who currently run Thomas Oken Tea Rooms together. Over the years we have developed a full on passion for food! We love anything foodie, from interesting flavour combinations for cakes (our favourites at the moment are rhubarb and custard, and banana and toffee) to new decoration techniques. We are also passionate about serving traditionally English high quality food, locally sourced wherever possible!

Because of our love of food, we have decided to branch out and start our new business Oken's Kitchen! This is located on Coten End Warwick. And currently looks a bit like this:

So as you can see there's quite a bit of work to do! Once it is finally open (hopefully by the end of June at the latest) we will be starting some great cookery lessons! We really want to share the knowledge of how to cook really fantastic tasting homely, rustic, yummy food.

When I was a student I think I was very lucky to have had this love of food all my life,  I have been cooking since I was very little, so cooking for myself in halls wasn't an issue. I also think my housemates were very lucky, as they got all this yummy food cooked for them! However if I wasn't there I often thought they'd live on a diet of super noodles alone! I honestly taught one of my friends how to boil an egg! So there you have our first course. Student cookery: Quick, healthy, delicious meals on a budget! Made fun as well (of course!)

We will also be doing lessons for retirees, the basics of baking, more advanced baking, cooking on a budget and loads more to help spread our passion for food and get more and more people cooking. If you want any more info on any of these or have any specific requests (I love to try my hand at anything) just drop me a quick email.

Already at the tea rooms we cater for all sorts of parties, from afternoon teas, to full blown 3 course meals, unfortunately though the Tea Rooms lends itself to smaller groups, rather than bigger, so part of our vision for the new shop is to enable us to bring our food to your location. Please check out our menus to see the sorts of things we are going to offer. Rest assured they are all made with love, we love catering for all sorts and have done office parties, retirement parties, birthday parties, baby showers... the list goes on. I really truly love making people happy and i think food is one of the keys to happiness. Although the premises isn't open yet ; we still have an industrial kitchen we can work from at the tea rooms, so if you want anything sooner rather than later we can still provide this for you!

Anyway, I feel I've rabbited on long enough, take a look through our website to see the other things we'll be offering. I thought I'd just introduce us with this blog, from now on I’m endeavouring to post regularly, with updates on the shop and all sorts of things we’re doing in the kitchen! I’m off to look at some paint shades right now! It’s all very exciting.

If you’re ever in the area, why not pop in to the Tea Rooms to say hello!
